I've noticed that since we moved to Kentucky I seem to cook more.  I really enjoy it so I'm not complaining.  Last night while cooking a pork loin on the grill I noticed that there was no sizzle left...we had ran out of clean burning propane.  I was so sad.  We took the loin off the grill and put it in the oven to finish cooking.  Out of three pork loins I have tried to cook on the grill I have been unsuccessful each and every time.  The first two just did not get quite done in the middle and this one...well lets just say it needed a while in the hot box not give us all trichinosis.  It turned out fine but stil.  I took the tank to Wal-mart and exchanged for a full one so we are ready to go again.  To say the least we have used our 10th anniversary present quite often. It's been awesome having a grill.  We've grilled everything from steak, lobster, ribs, veggies, hamburgers, sausages and hotdogs, veggies...you name it and we've probably at least contemplated grilling it.  It's nice to get outside to cook.  If you have a grill and haven't fired it up in a while I highly suggest doing so.  Get outside and enjoy the summer while we have it.

Slow news days... E-mail

Ok, it's been a while since we posted anything...sorry :(

It's hard to find anything to write about when all we do is our routine of Kevin goes to work, I do schoolwork and we veg out at night.  Kevin just finished reading '1984' by George Orwell.  Upon finishing it he simply looked at me and said, 'Well that was depressing."  It is a great book but yeah, it's not a uplifter.

The biggest news of the day is I made biscuits that were good.  I have many 'cooking nemesises' - one is frying food.  I'm terrible at it.  My other big nemesis is making biscuits from scratch.  I have conceded that buttermilk must be used in biscuits.  I made the argument that regular milk would be the same but I was wrong.  I admit it.  Partly as a procrastination tool I decided I'd try to make biscuits again.  My last batch are probably still shoring up a weak part in the foundation of our old house.  You could hit them on the table and they would barely crumble.  Definitely not good eats.  I went searching for a recipe for biscuits that I hopefully could not screw up.  Well I think I finally found one.  Alton Brown will not steer you wrong if you ever need a recipe for anything.  When I told Kevin about my plan for dinner he hesitantly said 'ok'.  I'm not sure how optimistic he was.  He has been down this road with me many, many times.  When I took the biscuits out I was hopeful.  They were golden brown on the top and bottom.

Kevin took one bite and I knew I had done what has eluded me in the past; made golden brown, done all the way through, biscuits.  Riding my high from biscuit making success I am going to fry chicken breast tomorrow night.  Hopefully they will be good...or we'll just go to Chick-fil-a.

Enjoy!!!
